With the dreaded Covid having stopped so much at CVCC in recent years, it was great to start running awards again this season.
On Sunday 22nd May a Discover Award was taken by two club members Steffi and Mila. They both had good basic skills from the outset, so we were able to spend more time on areas in need of practice. We ran the Cuckmere Loop section, launching at the steps and exiting the tidal river further downstream. No seal launches as the candidates had to enter their kayaks from the steps with minimal help to build some independence! Both did very well on this with only some stand safety cover, just in case!
Along with the skills required for the award, we covered the environmental impact of our sport and inland water access issues and history.
If you know me, you will know I cannot stop talking kayaking once I start… So it was great having Chris Barnard along to support me and chip in on some skills he could help with and give me a verbal break.
A huge Well Done to both Steffi and Mila for taking on the award and putting 100% into the work required to gain the award successfully.
If you are interested in taking the Discover or other awards we can run at the club, please speak to me or any of the other committee members.
