August so far has not delivered perfect paddling weather. Rarely have we seen the mirror-like water and perfect blue skies of last summer.
And it’s been windy, from light breeze to a chilly Northerly blast.
For beginner paddle boarders.to enjoy the experienc of being on the water, the recommendation is to go out if the wind is less than 12 knots. But then we use different terminology when talking about safety: rather than knots, we talk about coaches not taking a group out in winds exceeding force 3 on the Beaufort Scale.
But how do knots and the Beaufort Scale match to weather forecasts that talk about wind speeds at km/h or mph?
