This is an easy but beautiful paddle for kayaks and SUPs. We will start in the centre of Canterbury and go through the Venice-like waterways, under low bridges and buildings. You will need to kneel (or lie) on your SUP for most of the bridges! There maybe a few punts to dodge.
It is a linear route, so we will paddle around Canterbury then paddle up the Great Stour towards Chilham. We will stop on the bank for picnic lunch before paddling back; so the length of the paddle can be flexible depending on the weather/ water conditions/ consensus of the group. It is all sheltered river.
We will meet at the car park at 10am. It is a short portage to get in by Miller’s Arms pub.
You will need to pay for car parking at St Radigund’s Car Park, the fee will be about £13.50 depending on how long we are paddling. (I’m assuming 5 hours max. at £2.70 per hour)
If you want to start the day well, the Millers Arms does a lovely breakfast.
There is a plan to go to the Bagpuss (and others) museum afterwards, for those that want a bit of culture to round off the day.
