🌊 River Bridge Session – Basic moving water skills 🌊

The tides are perfect to play in the river around the bridge area, learning and practising basic moving water skills!

• Sunday 6 OCT with HT at 13.40(7.0M)

Mixed abilities welcome but comfortable in moving water.

Please take note that this is weather dependant. We will review weather condition the day before in case we need to cancel and reschedule.

No need to register – just come in as per usual to the Sunday Session for 9am.

Here’s what you can expect:

Introduction to Moving Water in our local River with a fair amount of theory as well as practical as long as we have sufficient water under the bridge to play around.
  • Introduction and Learn essential paddling techniques in moving water.
  • Discover how to control your kayak in moving water before any trip to LV or Nene.

🙂‍↔️ Turning is fundamental, requiring precise paddle strokes and body positioning to manoeuvre your kayak around obstacles and through tight spots.

⛴️ Ferry gliding is another essential skill, allowing you to move across the current without being swept downstream. This technique involves angling your kayak and using the current to your advantage. You will aim to practise Breaking in and breaking out and glide effortlessly across the water.

🛶 Edging is crucial for both turning and maintaining stability. By tilting your kayak on its edge, you can make sharper turns and better control your direction. This skill also helps in avoiding capsizing by allowing you to balance against the water’s force.

Mastering these techniques not only enhances your control and safety on the water but also makes your White Water adventures more exhilarating and enjoyable.
Have you had the chance to practice any of these skills on the water? if not, come and join us for a fun discovery session! 😛
